Hello Mr. Gilford,
I found your website when I was doing research about "nose art" on a Korean War B-29 vintage aircraft. The nose art was applied in 1952 or some time later. I read that the "lovely" guy adorning the B-29 was adopted from an early MAD Magazine.
My questions are:
Was that really a MAD figure and if it was, what was its name and in which issue did it appear?
If it is not part of the MAD Magazine world then what are its origins?

Doug,
I had a publicity client by the name of Oscar Jordan, who was a Nikita Khrushchev look-a-like. Mad did some photo art of my client ripping up a copy of "Mad". My framed picture is pretty faded. I would like to find the issue... It's hard, because I can't remember the exact date.

I recently picked up a MAD Magazine #44 Jan. '59 in decent condition. The cover looks just as it does on your web page (which is a great resource by the way!!! Don't get rid of it ever!!!), but my question has to do with the back cover of this issue. I swear it doesn't look flawed, but it almost appears that maybe there is an impression from another issue on the back cover, almost like the inks from another issue stuck to the backside of this issue from stacking other MAD mags??!??!?? I honestly can't tell for sure. Thank you very much for your time on this mystery of mine.
