Yup, Me Worry

I just wanted to tell you that I liked your April Fool's Joke in May. Although it's sad that MAD is selling out by running real ads, you spoofed them and in a way, it makes it better. I hope someone from MAD sees that and gets the hint. In the book The Mad World Of William Gaines that Frank Jacob wrote years ago said that MAD would never sell out and now they have. It's horrible and like I said, I hope someone from MAD sees your cover spoof.

Now that MAD has ads, is there any way to stop this trend? But first, how could such a thing happen to America's beloved furshluginner?! What's going on? This shouldn't happen to MAD! If Mad has ads, they make fun of it! Now it's real ads. Not just any ads. VID GAME ADS! NEW ALBUMS ADS! Now I have nothing against these kind of ads, but I felt this is a total violation of what MAD stands up for! (If I only knew what MAD really stands up for)!
There are two ways to stop this MADness. One, we can set up protest websites, demanding MAD to do something about it! Second, is the harshest, the most dreadful thing ever done to any media since I don't know, any media that "sold out": (Sob!) We have to boycott MAD. Boycott it like Gandhi going on a hunger strike to free India. Boycott it until MAD realises its folly! Or we can all just mourn the "death" of MAD.

Why the big fuss? It's MAD. Of all the organizations that have "principles," Mad's the first to sell out. They have been bragging for almost 50 years about not accepting ads. So of course they start accepting ads. It's trash. We know it is. I'm assuming you haven't seen the new Mountain Dew commercials... If it makes you feel better, blame the corporation that owns Mad.

(My response)
Of course it's trash and Mad's move to corporate ownership in its relatively recent history set the stage for its selling out. You'll get no argument here. What the fuss is about is that it happened at all. The older fans who remember a different Mad attitude just miss those days. All our icons are being sold these days to the highest bidder. Mad claimed they had to join the rest of the magazine world of slick color pages and higher production values to stay relevant to a new generation. That costs a lot and if they hadn't made those changes, there would be no Mad. I have seen the commercials and think they're great by the way.
